SEO is not one-size-fits-all, and that applies to people that work in SEO as well!
Think about jobs in a hospital – doctors and nurses probably come to mind first. However, if you think a little harder there are accountants, marketing specialists, and so much more!
The same goes for SEO. Sure, there are coders and writers but that's not all! If you want to succeed in the SEO industry find your strength and run with it.
You don't need to "have it all"
You might have heard that you need to know code in order to work in SEO. That's just not true!
Search Engine Journal calls someone with every skill an "SEO Unicorn" because that is so incredibly rare. They said, "A lot of skills go into being an SEO professional. And even if one does possess all of these skills, no one is a master of all of them."
If you think critically about it, everyone has their strengths and while it is certainly possible for someone to be a wizard and coding and great at persuasive writing that isn't very likely.
Work in a team
Even if someone does have all of the skills needed to be an SEO Unicorn – chances are they are better at some skills than others.
It often makes more sense to get really good at a few things and have a general knowledge of the others. That way incredible SEO teams can come together!
Find your strength and use it.
